Sportdidaktik und Schulsport – Zentrale Themen einer diversitätssensiblen Fachdidaktik
(Sport didactics and school sport - central topics of diversity-sensitive subject didactics)
Sebastian Ruin & Günter Stibbe (Eds.) 2023, ISBN 978-3-7780-9250-7
The aim of this collection of texts is to discuss central topics and trends in contemporary sports didactics, which arise in particular in connection with the tasks, opportunities and challenges of variety and diversity in physical education, extracurricular school sports and in the context of active school development. The idea behind this is to contribute to the conception of diversity-sensitive subject didactics, which, in the sense of a science of counseling, aims to develop the ability to reflect on educational theory and pedagogy and the diversity competence of (future) physical education teachers. The basis for this is a multi-perspective, educational school sport that recognizes students in their diversity and paves the way for the maturity of the individual in social responsibility.
In addition to Günter Stibbe and Sebastian Ruin, the authors of this book include Eckart Balz, Petra Böcker, Benjamin Bonn, Anette Böttcher, Malte Brinkmann, Martin Giese, Stefan Meier, André Poweleit, Sabine Reuker, Anne Rischke and Claudia Steinberg, all proven experts in a wide range of areas of (sports) didactic research.
Schulsport im Spiegel der Zeit(en) – Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten im sportdidaktischen Diskurs
(School sport in the mirror of time(s) - continuities and discontinuities in sport didactic discourse)
Anette Böttcher, Stefan Meier, André Poweleit & Sebastian Ruin (Eds.) 2022, ISBN:9783840378225
About half a century after the founding of numerous sports science institutes and the broad scientific anchoring of sports didactics, this anthology deals with school sports in the mirror of time(s) from different perspectives. Accordingly, contemporary issues are addressed both retrospectively and with a view to the future. The development of subject didactics and school (sport) development over the past decade(s) are reviewed and examined with a view to current challenges such as digitalization or inclusion. Educational policy developments are also reviewed in this context, looking at the content of curriculum research and curricular innovations in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg. In addition, the topic of diversity is specifically addressed as an exemplary area of past and future challenges in school sport in order to concretize the discourse strands in focus in an exemplary manner.
"School sport development has increasingly become the focus of sports education research in the last decade. [...] The present work "Schulsport im Spiegel der Zeit(en)" is certainly in this tradition, as it brings together many fundamental contributions by renowned authors from German-speaking sports education to form a current "mirror image" of school sports research." (From the foreword by the series editors of Edition Schulsport Heinz Aschebrock and Rolf Peter Pack)
Diversität und Körperlichkeit als Thema der Sportpädagogik.
(Diversity and physicality as a topic in physical education)
Theoretical considerations, empirical findings and didactic approaches. Sebastian Ruin. 2022 ISBN: 978-3-8403-7825-6
Questions of recognition and participation in the field of movement, play and sport have been at the center of sport pedagogical considerations for some time. The focus is currently shifting to diversity from a perspective that goes beyond individual characteristics of difference, such as gender, cultural affiliation or disability. In general, the concept of diversity refers to differences that influence opportunities for participation and are interwoven in many different ways. In this respect, it is very important for sports pedagogy how diversity manifests itself on a physical level, as sports pedagogy work is fundamentally based on the body. In this book, questions relating to the thematization of diverse physicalities in sports pedagogy are dealt with accordingly, whereby the focus is equally on a sensitive approach to diversity and the development of diversity sensitivity. The explanations essentially focus on three areas: conflicting interpretations of the body and physicality in sport, discourses on diversity and inclusion in (school) sport and the teaching principle of multi-perspectivity as a possible core element of diversity-sensitive subject didactics.
Sebastian Ruin completed his habilitation at the University of Wuppertal in 2021 with this thesis and was awarded the Ommo Grupe Prize 2021 by the German Association for Sports Science.
"Anyone researching the topic of the body and physicality in sports education in the future will not be able to avoid this work. Sebastian Ruin has enriched the discipline with a valuable overview and depth with this anthology." (Messmer, 2022, Zeitschrift für sportpädagogische Forschung, 10 (2), p. 204.)

Practical textbook in a new edition
Sports medicine training is becoming increasingly important in the prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases and is now regarded as an attractive additional qualification to basic medical training. There is also a growing demand for training and further education in sports medicine among many doctors. This book reflects this trend and its structure is thematically oriented towards the main areas of internal, physiological and pediatric training principles of sports medicine. The new edition has been adapted and updated to reflect the current state of knowledge. The book also focuses on the implementation and interpretation of sports medicine examination techniques, such as functional diagnostics, lactate performance diagnostics and substratutilization. In addition, special issues from the daily work of sports physicians, such as overload, nutrition and special environmental conditions such as heat or cold, are presented in a practical way. Numerous illustrations and examination questions at the end of each article make it particularly user-friendly. It is therefore an indispensable guide for all trainee sports physicians and general practitioners interested in sport and exercise who work in practices or clinics.

Den Körper verändern Sport und Training mit Bauchgefühl für Kopfmenschen
Klaus Rom
Publisher: Brüder Hollinek

When in a book a sports scientist advises a lady not to exercise, explains to his wife's grandmother what life is, and hurries his students through the forest to make them understand how the body wants to stop them from exercising - and why he is definitely right - then it is not only entertaining and exciting, but definitely worth reading. In entertaining and informative chapters, the author calls into question many things that we have previously taken for granted about changes in the human body. For example, do you really have to eat less to lose weight and exercise to be healthy? In doing so, he uncovers uncertainties in seemingly certain knowledge and consistently questions his own theories. Ultimately, however, he describes a viable way of dealing with this uncertainty and changing your body according to your own ideas

This book is an attempt to synthesize the radical and practical with the general of the methodology of movement and sport. The aim is to clarify where the word radical comes from, what it means and why it need not have a deterrent effect on the reader. Etymologically, the term radical comes from the Latin word radix, the root. It therefore means from the root up, from the ground up, from the outset. The thoughts and considerations contained therein relate beyond methodology to the limits of planning, convergent and divergent thinking in problem solving, the environment for action in physical education, the connection between planning and participation, intentional and goal-oriented practice and training and the question of safety.
Praxis in turn comes from the ancient Greek prassein and means to act or to deal with the world through action. The authors focus on actual practical encounters in the teaching of movement and sport.
Thus, the reader will find action-related considerations that deal with the tools of the equipment list and the material card index, the agony of fair and appreciative choice, the practice of co-planning by learners, practice-oriented safety in the subject of movement and sport as well as the assembly and disassembly of equipment to prepare the environment, the construction of movement landscapes and the material staging of movement worlds, which form an integral part of lively teaching.
The aim of the book is a fundamental understanding that allows movement and interpretation in many directions. The book is a collection of reflections by three very different people who meet in the teaching profession. In addition to the presence of teaching and learning, conveying movement allows for forethought and reflection with regard to future and past events in the classroom.
Handlungskonzepte konstruktivistischer Fachdidaktik im Sportunterricht am Beispiel des Spielsports Basketball
(Concepts of action of constructivist subject didactics in physical education using the example of the game of basketball)
Gerald Payer
SVH Publishing House, 2010
ISBN: 978-3-8381-1922-9
Is that all that has happened so far in terms of didactic efforts in sports games? Or can sports science do more and complementary things with complementary considerations that go beyond the usual field of sports science activities? With the help of a certain way of thinking, namely that of constructivism, the author attempts to approach the specific nature of sports games using the example of basketball. In doing so, the path is taken via the description of different constructivist approaches to the "invention" of (didactic) realities and a critical-constructive examination of the recent history of sports game didactics using exemplary representatives to a possible and long-tested implementation in sports game practice. The book is not intended as a finished work, but rather as a work in progress, as an approach to thought and action that should inspire interested readers to further reflection.

Science in sports practice - problem areas of knowledge transfer and approaches to solutions
Klaus Rom
SVH Publishing House, 2010
ISBN:978-3-8381-1932-8
Sports science often justifies its existence by its effectiveness in sports practice. But can scientific findings really be translated so easily into training practice? In his dissertation, the author attempts to show that there must be problems and what their causes may be. In addition, he provides a possible solution for the transfer of knowledge between the two worlds with a training concept that is suitable for both scientific theory and practice.

Outpatient cardiac rehabilitation is becoming increasingly important due to its remarkable long-term results. For the first time, this importance is taken into account in a book.
In addition to pathology and epidemiology, the book focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Contributions on extensive rehabilitative measures in the context of training therapy, nutrition and psychocardiology also play an important role. Topics such as organization and disease management successfully round off the work.
The structure is based on the teaching content of the recognized training curriculum for cardiac rehabilitation and is therefore particularly suitable for prospective and fully trained doctors and exercise instructors. Students of medicine and sports science receive an optimal overview.

Nowadays, our lives are made easier by an army of machines that do at the touch of a button what we used to have to work for by the sweat of our brow. We have become increasingly accustomed to these conveniences and take them for granted. Or could you still imagine a life in which you did all your daily journeys on foot or by bike? A life in which you grind your coffee beans into powder by hand and then chop wood, heat the oven to boil the water and then wait for the water to drip through the coffee filter? One foot on the gas pedal and we drive from A to B, one press of the button and the espresso is in the cup. Once a machine breaks down, it is repaired or immediately replaced with a newer, better model. In our world of luxury, almost everything works like magic.
But as always in life, when you get something, you pay a price for it. By price, however, we don't mean the rising costs of raw materials and energy that are currently threatening to kill us, especially at the petrol pumps. The few euros for a takeaway coffee in the store around the corner are also in proportion to the effort involved in producing it. The actual price we pay is less obvious and remains more or less hidden from most of us. But that makes its effect all the more dramatic! Something is changing in the way we perceive our bodies and how we treat them.
We humans are all too obviously different from coffee machines and cars. But, surrounded by all these technical aids, many of us nowadays perceive our bodies as just one of these machines. They also expect it to do what they want it to do at the touch of a button. What if you have a headache? Do you look for the cause of the pain, try to understand it and eliminate it, or do you press the "headache off button" and take a painkiller? What do you do if you have too much fatty tissue on your stomach? Do you try to find out why this is the case for you and change your life, or do you press the "fat away button" and go on another diet, buy an abdominal training device, which in this case is as useful as a jack when installing a car radio, or do you have yourself "repaired" and go under the knife? Do you brush your teeth diligently, but still get cavities and your gums aren't getting any better? Hopefully, because recognizing the problem is the first step on the way to solving it! We humans have forgotten how to deal with a body that, unfortunately for all of us, is sometimes, but not without reason, beyond our conscious control. We try to use force to change our bodies and the way we feel, but fail to achieve our goals because we don't understand what makes us living beings different from inanimate machines. The consequences are frustration, dissatisfaction and the feeling of living in a body that does not function "properly"
